The character of the material
Marmorino is an Italian lime plaster with mineral aggregates that give the surface its distinctive body and texture. Depending on the material and application, it can feel softly matte, gently polished, or more expressive and stone-like.
Its appeal is in the variation: a wall that feels calm from a distance reveals the maker’s hand up close. In a stairwell or room with strong daylight, small shifts in tone become part of the architecture.
Choose a subtle finish when you want the walls to support the room’s palette. Warm whites, pale stone tones, and restrained movement pair naturally with wood, linen, and honed stone.
A more pronounced texture can give a feature wall or entry a tactile presence. The sample should establish both the scale of the movement and how much variation feels right.
For a little more reflected light, explore a smoother finish and a controlled sheen. Review it beside your lighting and furnishings so the final surface feels balanced.

Look closer
A tall stairwell gives plaster room to show its character. The changing daylight, skylight geometry, and curved chandelier shadows reveal the surface without overwhelming it. Consider where sunlight travels through your own space before deciding how much texture and sheen to introduce.
Living rooms, bedrooms, entryways, stairwells, and ceilings are all places to consider Marmorino. For a whole-home finish, think through how the surface will meet cabinetry, baseboards, doorways, and adjacent materials.
Send photos, plans or approximate dimensions, your location, and references for the atmosphere you want.
Compare color, texture, and sheen in the room, alongside flooring, stone, wood, and fabrics.
Review the substrate and any cracks, uneven areas, or transitions before the selected plaster system is applied.
Refine the hand-applied surface and discuss any protective treatment and care suited to the location.
Marmorino belongs to the broader family of Italian decorative plasters. These Venetian plaster examples from our Whiteman residence gallery offer a useful comparison for light, movement, and room design.

Venetian plaster is often used as an umbrella term for several decorative finishes. Marmorino is one approach within that family, with a mineral character influenced by its aggregate and application. Compare physical samples rather than choosing by the name alone.
Tell us whether the surface is a dry bathroom wall, a splash area, or inside a shower. These are different conditions. A decorative wall finish should not be assumed suitable for direct water; we can discuss Tadelakt or microcement systems where appropriate.
The wall must be assessed first. Soundness, texture, moisture, and the condition of the paint determine the preparation required. Loose coatings and existing defects need attention before plastering.
Yes. A custom sample helps establish the color, movement, and sheen together. Review it in daylight and evening light, and against the permanent materials in the room.
An estimate depends on surface area, access, ceiling height, preparation, and finish complexity. Send photos and dimensions with your location and desired schedule so we can discuss your project.
Use the care guidance for the specific material and protective treatment selected. Avoid abrasive cleaning and test any approved cleaning method in an inconspicuous place. Ask about repairs before attempting a visible touch-up.
