The character of the material
Tadelakt is a traditional Moroccan lime plaster technique. Hand polishing and a compatible soap treatment create its distinctive sheen and water-repellent surface. Slight clouding and soft tonal variation are part of the look.
The result can feel both sculptural and understated. Curves, niches, and carefully formed transitions let the surface flow across the architecture. A physical sample is essential for choosing the balance of color, movement, and reflection.
Explore ivory, sand, warm gray, and other mineral tones against your stone and hardware. The same color can appear quite different under natural and artificial light.
Rounded corners and considered edges can give a room a cohesive feel. Discuss niches, benches, fixtures, and transitions early so they are part of the design.
Look closely at how light moves across the sample. The finish should have the variation you enjoy seeing every day, rather than an effect chosen only from a photograph.

Look closer
For a shower or other direct-water application, suitability depends on the specific product and complete assembly. Tadelakt’s water repellency is not a substitute for an approved waterproofing design. Some formulations are not recommended for shower interiors.
Bring your contractor or designer into the conversation early. Confirm the proposed system, wet-area suitability, substrate, drying conditions, and ongoing care before installation. We can also discuss microcement when the application or maintenance priorities call for a different approach.
Identify dry walls, splash zones, direct-water areas, and any curved or built-in details. Share plans and references.
Review the color and polished character in the intended light, alongside fixtures and surrounding materials.
Establish the compatible substrate and any required waterproofing, junction details, and protection of adjacent finishes.
Hand application is followed by the finishing treatment for the selected system. Confirm curing time and a suitable cleaning routine.
Additional decorative plaster bathroom views from our image library show niches, fixtures, and tonal movement to discuss during design. The finish system for your room will be selected for its actual conditions.

Protected fittings, prepared surfaces, and clean transitions matter as much as the final photograph. This view from the Coldwater Canyon project shows the work in progress around a bathtub and recessed niche.
Explore the Coldwater Canyon project →A polished, soap-treated surface can repel water, but suitability varies by formulation and location. For showers, confirm a product approved for that use and a complete waterproofing assembly. Do not rely on decorative plaster alone to protect the construction.
Follow the selected manufacturer’s instructions, including any periodic soap treatment. Use approved gentle cleaning products and soft tools. Avoid abrasive pads and acidic cleaners, and discuss the routine before choosing the finish.
These applications need a separate technical review. Traffic, slip resistance, standing water, and continuous immersion are demanding conditions. We do not assume a wall finish is suitable for floors, pools, or submerged surfaces.
Tadelakt is rooted in a lime-plaster polishing tradition. Microcement is a different coating system with its own preparation and protective treatments. Compare the appearance, approved uses, and care requirements before making a selection.
Area, access, substrate preparation, wet-area detailing, curves, and finish complexity all affect the estimate. Send room photos, approximate dimensions, and your location for a project-specific conversation.
Screens and lighting change how a finish appears. A physical sample viewed in your room gives a more useful reference for color and sheen than an online image.
